What are the indications for the use of the FM220?
The FlowMedic™ FM220 System is intended for the improvement of blood circulation in the lower extremities to help prevent and reduce complications of poor circulation.
Who is the patient population who can benefit from the FM220?
The FM220 can be used for adults over 18 years old who suffer from insufficient arterial blood flow to the lower limbs. This condition is common in diabetics and people who suffer from Peripheral Arterial Disease.
How does the FM220 work?
The FM220 consists of a battery-operated, rechargeable control unit and a disposable sleeve. The FM220 intermittently tugs and releases the straps attached to the disposable sleeve, applying and then rapidly releasing mechanical pressure on the calf muscle of the leg. The compression cycle takes place every 20 seconds. Upon each cycle, the sleeve is at its loose state for a period of time followed by an interval during which the sleeve is at its tight (compression) state. When the sleeve is at its tight (compression) state, it exerts pressure on the muscle. This activity causes rapid evacuation of venous blood from the limb, therefore increasing the arterio-venous pressure gradient.
Is a prescription from a doctor required to purchase the FM220?
Yes.
How is the FM220 different from the other devices used to treat circulatory conditions?
Conventional alternative treatments to improve blood flow in the lower limbs may currently involve surgical means, angioplasty, pharmacological treatment, and/or the use of Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (IPC) devices. The effect of the FM220 on arterial blood flow is similar to that of Intermittent Pneumatic Compression devices. The advantage of the FM220 is its ease of use and light weight, enabling its use both at home and in the hospital. Additionally, due to its patented compression system, increased blood flow is achieved at a comfortable pressure profile.
What are the components of the FM220 System?
The FM220 consists of a portable rechargeable control unit and an individually-packaged disposable sleeve.
How long can the disposable sleeve last?
The sleeve is designed for use during a one week period. After seven days, the sleeve is discarded.
Can the sleeve be positioned on clothes?
The device should be positioned on the bare skin of the treated limb.
How long can the battery last before I have to re-charge?
The battery is designed to operate for at least 4 hours without the need for recharging. An indicator shows when the battery is nearly depleted and about 10 min of battery power remains.
How long does it take to re-charge?
It takes approximately 4 hours to fully recharge a depleted battery.
What is the overall battery life of the FM220 and how do I get a replacement?
The battery is guaranteed for 6 months of daily use. Contact FlowMedic Customer Service (1-888-FLOWMDX) for information regarding battery replacement.
Can the FM220 be used at home?
The FM220 is designed for home or hospital use.
Is the patient confined to a bed during treatment?
One of the main advantages of the FM220 is its light weight and portability. There is no need to stay in bed during the treatment, and it is recommended to be in a sitting position.
What is the size and weight of the device?
Size: 6.3'' x 3.5” x 2.0” (160mm x 90mm x 50mm) (approx) Weight: 19 oz. (540gr.)
